MARA to Energize Another 2.5 EH/s of Immersion S21 in Ohio

MARA is set to energize an additional 2.5 EH/s of Bitcoin mining hashrate with the deployment of S21 Pro miners at one of the Ohio sites it acquired in Q4.
In a production update released Tuesday, MARA stated that it is “close to finishing construction” on a 40-megawatt (MW) data center in Ohio, where it plans to install over 10,000 S21 Pro immersion miners.
According to Bitmain’s specifications for the immersion-cooled S21, the miners have a nameplate efficiency of 16 J/TH, which implies that MARA’s Ohio site could contribute an additional 2.5 EH/s to its overall hashrate.
As outlined in MARA’s 2024 annual report, the company currently has 1.118 gigawatts of operational capacity across five U.S. states and internationally. Its three Ohio sites have a combined operational capacity of 88 MW, including Hannibal (41 MW), Findlay (26 MW), and Hopedale (21 MW).
It appears that MARA plans to deploy additional hashrate at the Hannibal site, as it is the only facility with operational capacity but no energized hashrate as of the end of 2024.
In November, MARA acquired two data centers in Hannibal and Hopedale, Ohio from Arkon Energy for a total of $67 million, while also beginning the development of the Findlay site.
MARA reported a Bitcoin production of 706 BTC in February, implying a realized hashrate of 44.14 EH/s. This represents a slight increase from January but still accounts for only 82.20% of its deployed hashrate of 53.7 EH/s. The company continues to retain all of its mined Bitcoin, bringing its total reserves to 46,374 BTC as of the end of February.
